Why Skincare?

A note from Mallory
Hi LYM family,
One of the questions we’ve been asked most since starting LYM is, “Why skincare?”
For me, the answer has always been Olivia.
If you’re following our socials, then you saw me share earlier this week that ever since Olivia was a baby, she’s had eczema. If you’ve ever dealt with sensitive skin, you know how quickly you become an expert at reading ingredient labels. Every new lotion, soap, or sunscreen came with a little hesitation. Would this help? Would it make things worse?
Over the years, we found what worked for her. Our bathroom shelf wasn’t filled with dozens of products or complicated routines. It was mostly gentle cleansers and baby Aquaphor. We kept things simple because simple was what her skin needed and could tolerate.
But now Olivia is getting older and she’s interested in skincare. She watches girls on YouTube showing off colorful routines and carefully lined-up products on their bathroom counters. She wants to participate in something that feels fun and grown up.
As her mom, I love seeing that excitement because learning to care for herself is part of growing up.
And yet, given her sensitive skin, I didn’t know what products were actually made for girls like her. The more I looked, the more I realized there wasn’t much in between. Many products felt too harsh or packed with ingredients that growing skin simply doesn’t need. Others were designed for babies, leaving girls without something that felt like it belonged to them.
That realization became the beginning of LYM.
As we’ve worked with our lab to develop our first products, we’ve kept coming back to the same principle: skincare for girls should feel exciting, but it should also be gentle.
We’re testing ingredients like colloidal oat and centella because they’re known for supporting sensitive skin and helping strengthen the skin barrier. We’re avoiding unnecessary fragrances and harsh actives, not because they’re always bad, but because we believe growing skin deserves products designed specifically with it in mind.
When we picture LYM sitting on a bathroom counter, we hope it becomes more than just another bottle of skincare.
We hope it becomes a moment that’s hers.
A few quiet minutes at the beginning or end of the day where a girl learns that taking care of herself isn’t about changing who she is—it’s about appreciating the skin she’s already in.
That has always been the heart behind this brand.
And every week, as we test formulas, review packaging, and learn alongside other families, we’re reminded that maybe we weren’t the only ones looking for something like this.
If this story feels familiar, we’d love to hear yours. One of the best parts of building LYM has been hearing from parents who have been searching for something similar.
Thank you for coming along on this journey with us. It means more than you know.
Love you more,
Mallory & Jenn
